JOURNEY OF SUCCESS THROUGH STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
In my journey of interviewing top CEOs for my book “Journey of Leadership” which is available in the bookstore, I realize that their journey has been a rocky one full of challenges albeit opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere but what is our focus? There is a tendency to grab hold of anything that comes our way.
One main key I discovered is “Focus” and one entrepreneur Mr. Peter Liong of Matsushita Greatwall Industries has this to say to his readers: “The whole problem with Asian business is that they do not focus on one business.” He is one man I admire – full of passion, integrity, caring, full of confidence in what he does with one focus in mind: The Company must make money.
Secondly, he believes in building strategic alliance with companies who have large retail community like Courts & Robinsons besides his network of dealers. It is through building strategic alliances with Courts and Robinson that his business grows in leaps and bounds which eventually lead to large volume of profits and today he is the leader in the mattress industry in Singapore.
George Keely quotes strategic alliance as a cooperative arrangement between two or more companies where a common business strategy and goals are established by all parties, each party sharing specific strengths with the other, lending power to the venture, and resources; capital and risks are pooled for mutual (rather than individual) gain.
The number of strategic alliances is surging and in USA nearly 6% of the revenue generated from top 1000 U.S. companies now comes from alliances, a four -fold increase since 1987. People with strategic alliances achieve a higher return on investment. Alliances have also shown a greater success rate.
At the end of the day, all entrepreneurs of big and small enterprises need to increase their bottomline to sustain their business and to give room for expansion. Strategic Alliances also provides platform for value added programs and service to customers, affinity to marketing partners, help generate maximum potential return, drive customers to your websites and general membership, cost savings, value added service and bottom line results.
